4 Secrets to a Great Relationship
#1 Make The Right Connections
Nope – not the one you’re with, but the ones you hang with. It’s amazing how great an impact the people around us have. Here’s something I learned a while ago. If you want to be great, hang around greatness. If you want to be successful, hang around success. If you want a healthy relationship, connect with those who have healthy relationships. Dysfunction tends to lead to dysfunction. My advice is to check out who you are connected to and make adjustments where needed. If you are what you eat, I personally believe you will also become like those you hang around. This secret can help save your relationship! Here’s a great resource for choosing the right friends.
#2 Get To Know You
Do a proper assessment of who you presently are. Know what makes you happy and what makes you sad; what inspires you and what zaps the life out of you. Know your strengths, weaknesses, abilities, talents, and personality type. Yes, you are gifted to do some amazing things even if you have not come to realize them yet. Work on developing your challenged areas and invest resources in perfecting the gifted ones. The more you know about you, the better you will be able to assess your special person’s place in your life. Authenticity never grows old.
#3 Be Happy
You have heard this 1,000 times, but it’s worth reiterating. Be Happy. Choose your own happiness. There is no way you will have a happy and healthy relationship if you are not happy and healthy alone. If you are waiting for someone to come along and make you happy, your waiting will be in vain. At the very least, in time, you will probably make them miserable. Sure, another person can inspire your happiness, but this one is on you.
#4 Make Time For The One You Love
Notice I didn’t find the time. Amidst your busy schedule, you must make time for the one you love. If you don’t have the time to invest in a relationship, perhaps now isn’t the time to be pursuing one. He or she must be a priority and priorities are not the kind of things you get to … when you find the time. Check out our Lessons for Love blog here.
These 4 secrets to a great relationship should get you well on your way.
