I AM WORTH THE WAIT

Guest Blogger: Aliese Hemphill

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

One day, my friend told me that he saw me in a dream. While in the dream, I had on a wedding dress and I was looking outside of the window as if I was waiting for my husband. I felt so amazed and puzzled by what the dream meant. As I pondered the dream in my heart, I received it as a reminder that Jesus is coming back. He will return for His bride, the Church, and we are all in waiting. In this blog, I will discuss how we are to wait for the Lord’s return and even how to stand firm in faith while patiently waiting for God to send your spouse that He has prepared for you before the foundations of the world.

In my latest book, I share several testimonies about my “love life” and how much heartache I received for not knowing my worth. I settled for relationships that were filled with cheating, lies, and disrespect because I didn’t understand just how valuable I was to God and how much He truly loved me. One day when I was in my bedroom reading the Word of God, the Lord spoke to me this Scripture which brought illuminated my eyes and healed my soul…

“The Lord said, “For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name, and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth. For the Lord has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a youthful wife when you were refused,” Says your God. “For a mere moment I have forsaken you, but with great mercies, I will gather you. With a little wrath, I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting kindness, I will have mercy on you,” Says the Lord, your Redeemer” (Isaiah 54:5-8).

At that moment, I realized that I was loved and wanted. The Maker was my husband and therefore I lacked no good thing. For years I believed that something was missing from my life like I was “less than” because I did not have a husband. It was Christ Jesus who was missing from being the center of my life. The world always tells us that we are missing something from our lives. Women feel the pressure to get married and have children because society tells us that at a certain age, our life should look a certain way. However, God wants us to be content with what we have and that is His unfailing love and promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us (see Deuteronomy 31:6).

During our wait season for the return of Christ, we are to find joy in doing the things that God has destined us to do. He created us for good works and as we pursue God, we will find contentment in His calling. During our wait season, we should live each day to the fullest and make every second count. You are needed, you are gifted, and you are powerful. God has called you to the kingdom for such a time as this, dear heart. Trust and believe that God has a plan for your life. As His vessels of honor, the Lord wants to find us in faith and living a life that glorifies Him. I can honestly say that life truly began once I took my eyes off of myself and put them on the Lord.

We can also find ourselves waiting for the promises of God. Some people are believing God for marriage, children, ministry, new jobs, and businesses… the list goes on and on. In my book, I discuss the importance of patience and how God develops us in our wait season. As for me, I wanted to be married when I was in my 20’s. Truth be told, I was nowhere ready for marriage. Ha! God had to heal my heart and introduce me to Him all over again before I could truly understand the beauty and calling of being a wife. I want you to know that you are worth the wait. You are a treasure and God is moving in your life even when it doesn’t feel like it. Our Father never sleeps or slumbers and He knows exactly what you need before you need it.

As for me, the Lord waited until marriage was no longer an “idol” in my heart before He opened up my understanding to see that marriage was a part of  His plan for my life and on the horizon. I remember going on dates with the Holy Spirit and just enjoying His presence and loving myself. We have to appreciate and enjoy our own company before others can enjoy us. There is nothing wrong with celebrating yourself and getting to know yourself without being in large groups of people. Nothing can compare to spending quiet time with God. It is priceless! No matter how long your season of waiting lasts, understand that God keeps His promises and brings them to pass in His perfect timing and not in our own timing.  God is always moving in the waiting season of our lives. Once we realize that our Maker is our husband, we find peace, knowing that we are already a wife before we see the earthly manifestation.

In closing, no matter what blessings we receive from the Lord, our hearts will always long for God. He is irreplaceable and He fills every void in our heart. God will bless His children with relationships and things that bring us happiness, but true joy comes from the Lord. As you journey with me in my latest book, I pray that you enjoy the chapters on marriage and the reward of exercising the fruit of patience. Our God is so good and remembers, you are worth the wait!

Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of today. I refuse to be anxious about tomorrow and I enjoy your goodness and all of Your divine surprises. May my contentment always be found in You. As I seek first Your kingdom, I know that all of these other things will be added unto me (see Matthew 6:33). As the bride of Christ, I pray that You find me doing Your will in the power of the Holy Spirit. I love You above all else, and I thank You for the perfect work that You are doing in my life. Lord, make me ready for what You have ordained for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
