Which friend are you?

Single With Friends,

God gives us friendships so we won’t have to go through this life alone. God does not isolate you from other Christians to grow you spiritually. We need people!

Godly friends comfort us, encourage us, and keep us focused on God. Godly friendships are not simply a social outlet, but a support system for developing our faith. The story of Daniel is an excellent example of the importance of having Godly friendships. Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were friends of Daniel who, while in a stressful situation away from their homes, continued to trust and pray to God when they were ordered by King Nebuchadnezzar to worship his gods and a golden image of himself. Their trust and devotion to God saved them while in a lion’s den.

While we are single, we must value Godly friendships to help us make the right decisions when it comes to relationships. We can sometimes grow impatient and end up accepting a date from anyone who asks us on a date because of loneliness or excitement of meeting someone new.

Having Christian friends is vital to spiritual growth.

They bring us to God

James 5:16 – 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. (CSB)

Colossians 3:12-13 – 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. (CSB)

Alone, we will fall under the weight of our sins. Sins are easier to conquer when you have someone to share life with.

  • You will be encouraged to stand strong in tough situations
  • Be encouraged to choose God, not the world
  • Be corrected when you are going down a path leading to sin and destruction
  • Have someone you can trust to keep your private life private
  • Share everyday experiences with
  • Someone to love you as you are, but help you become your best in Jesus
  • Someone to catch you when you fall

God also tells us what type of friends not to have:

Proverbs 20:19 – Do not associate with gossips

Proverbs 22:24-25- Don’t associate with a hot tempered person

Proverbs 24:21-22 – Discontent; always searching for more (worldly things)

Proverbs 28:7 – Self-indulgent: only wants to satisfy themselves

Proverbs: 29:3 – Immoral
