What Do You Really Want?
(Guest Blogger: Janelle Johnson)
I have often heard people say, “I just want to be happy.” What makes you happy, and how do you determine if you really are happy? Understanding and articulating what you really want requires that you be honest. Being honest with yourself requires that you investigate yourself by asking questions like: What is my life’s purpose? What is the vision for my life? When I close my eyes, how do I envision my life? What do I need to do to have the life I really want? Be strategic and tactical in how you pursue the life you really want to live.
In my book, I wrote about what I really wanted, and once I determined what I really wanted, I gained the strength to make an intelligent decision. Do not compromise your life’s vision for anyone. I highly recommend creating a vision board and only putting on it what you really want to see manifested in your life. Keep in mind, you must work toward what you put on your vision board because it is not going to magically happen. No matter what challenges are facing you, do not compromise possessing what you want for anyone. If you allow someone else to rewrite the vision for your life, you give them too much control.
Only God should be able to write the vision for your life. Because His intent toward you is only good and He is omniscient, you can trust that God is able to write the vision for your life.
Who have you allowed to affect you in such a way that you changed the vision for your life? Who have you allowed to stifle you or form boundaries around you? In the book of Habakkuk 2:2, the Old Testament prophet wrote, “Write the vision and make plain.” I encourage you to do the same. Write your vision and make it plain. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by people, whether they are your naysayers or critics. Remain focused until you realize the vision.
